  • In Sunday school, I was taught that god showed mercy on the planet by basically killing everyone but a single family and all the animals of the world. I was 10, and believed everything I was taught. As I grew older, I began to think about these stories. Noah was an old man when the ark was built. After they came out of the ark, there would have to be a bunch of incest. Once I was told that unicorns missed the boat. These thoughts ate at me to the point where I showed my pastor that our omnipotent God who created us, decided to destroy creation because he made a mistake and failed. My pastor explained that God was still young then, and made mistakes, but now he is perfect and we should rejoice that he sent Jesus to make us blameless. That was a long time ago, and I didn’t know how to argue against his explanation.
